Digital Instant Toy Cameras

With the invention of the iPhone, and other smart phones came the ability to create an old, but new kind of photography.  I'm not talking about just taking pictures, but creating photography.  With programs such as Hipstamatic, Camera+, and Instagram, people are creating art with the simplest of cameras, their smart phones. These cameras for the most part bring back all the great film styles from mid 20th century, but also include styles from photography's early days.  I have been able to create pictures that look like tin types.

With the use of social media, companies are posting pictures of their products using these programs. This is a Pizza Hut ad that was posted on their Facebook fan page. It's got a vintage look to it, and looks as though it was printed on paper that had to be emulsified by the creator of the image.

Here are a few of my own images that were created using the Camera+ and Hipstamatic apps from Apple's App Store. Visit the link to my Smart Phone Art page and check out more of my work.

Tammie Pryor

For my portraiture final, I asked my friend Tammie Pryor to pose for me.  Thank you Tammie for being patient with me and for the great conversation.
